"Gunny" Bob suggested congressional Democrats bear blame for rising gas prices
Talking about "[g]as pains" on his June 10 broadcast, Newsradio 850 KOA's "Gunny" Bob Newman stated that "in the last year, gas has gone up a buck a gallon," adding, "Since the Democrats took over [the U.S. Congress], it's gone up around 2 bucks a gallon." Newman further suggested that congressional Democrats were responsible for the rise in gas prices, saying, "Using that math, if you extrapolate -- move forward -- how much would gas go up with eight years of Democrats not only running the Congress, but running the White House?" He later answered, "That would be about, oh, 12.04 a gallon."
However, as Media Matters for America noted in response to a similar claim by Rush Limbaugh, according to data from the federal Energy Information Administration, depicted in the chart below, average monthly gasoline prices (adjusted for inflation) began to climb several years before Democrats took control of Congress. According to the EIA's figures, the average price per gallon was $2.24 in January 2007, when the Democratic majority was sworn into Congress, compared with $1.447 per gallon in January 2001, at the beginning of the Bush administration.
The average price in May was $3.766, up 62 cents from a year earlier.
From the June 10 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show:
NEWMAN: Gas pains. I mean, just how bad can this get? Let's think about this; in the last year, gas has gone up a buck a gallon. Since the Democrats took over, it's gone up around 2 bucks a gallon. Now, think about this. Using that math, if you extrapolate -- move forward -- how much would gas go up with eight years of Democrats not only running the Congress, but running the White House? Well, let's see, if we just continue it on the average of a dollar a year, how much would gas be at the end of another eight years? Well, let's think now. That would be about, oh, 12.04 a gallon.

To suggest that the gas prices are the direct result of whichever party has control of whichever branch of government is assanine, unless you can point to some bill or whatever that was passed the directly affects gas prices.
But an assanine comment from Gunny Jagoff is pretty standard.
"Lets think about this" Gunny. Oil was 30 bucks a barrel when the Decider took office. Its now 130 bucks a barrel since the Decider invaded Iraq, got 35,000 Americans killed and wounded, destroyed the Iraqi infrastructure and economy, and tarnished the American image throughout the world. We have no where to go but UP. Jagoff is right!
Concur, BOOf and NATE. But the standard audience that buys this jagoff's garbage will take this phony spin and believe it. I'd love to be in on the demographic breakdown of the "gunny bob newman" listeners that olinger and larsen use to justify this dolt's continued employment on "850 hate blowtorch". Here's a guess: The black helicopter crowd...check. The "FDR knew the plan to attack on 7dec41" crowd...check. "Iraq had WMD"...check. The "Tim Mcveigh was justified" crowd...check. "Sadaam was behind 9/11"...check. "The New Deal is bad for America"...check "Obama is a Muslim"...check. "Obama' a radical christian"...check. (Here's bettin' these rubes believe he's both). The "it's ok to invade countries, torture pow's, shred the Constitution, commit high treason, be a war profiteer at the expense of U.S. Military personnel, gin up war talk with Iran to drive Oil Speculator/corporations profits through the roof crowd...double check. The "anything's ok as long as it keeps stateside republicans' asses safe" bunch (that's the sniffer sub-demographic)...oh yeah. And last but not least... The "gunny bob newman saw combat, even though he can't produce evidence of it" crowd...check. In other words, "the 22%".
Sorry , forgot this one. "John Murtha should be hung". This is a direct quote of "gunny bob newman", 02feb2007 on 850 koa radio. The accurate description of his audience? I don't know. "Dueling Banjos" demographic? Close enough.
Jeez.gummy is really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.
Not a stretch for gummy though.
U.S. energy policy ? - Did Cheney ever release his secret meetings with his big oil buds in 2001 ? There is the answer - and we'll never see it.
