KHOW's Caplis: Sen. Clinton "enabled" her husband's "cheating in exchange for power"
Discussing marital infidelity by politicians on his March 12 630 KHOW-AM broadcast, co-host Dan Caplis asserted that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton "enabled [former President Bill] Clinton's cheating in exchange for power," concluding, "I think that's one reason why she was a fatally flawed ... candidate for president."
Caplis' conversation with co-host Craig Silverman followed allegations reported March 10 that Democratic New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer had solicited a prostitute. As Media Matters for America has noted, in a recorded report aired on the March 11 broadcast of the CBS Evening News, Washington Post reporter Sally Quinn similarly stated, "I can only think that ambition, their own personal ambition, is part of why" women like Clinton or Spitzer's wife, Silda, would "stick by these men," concluding, "why would a Hillary Clinton or a Silda stand by her man and allow herself to be humiliated unless there was something in it for her?"
From the March 12 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Caplis & Silverman Show:
CAPLIS: I mean, Bill Clinton was the Democratic president of the United States, and he has at that point a powerful ally in the media; at that point it turned into, and he fashioned it as, a political battle, and I think that's how we saw it play out. Eliot Spitzer just didn't have the political juice.
SILVERMAN: Well, but the thing about Bill Clinton, he was president when Lewinsky broke. But before that there was Gennifer Flowers, and in both situations, and frankly, throughout his scandalous past, his biggest ally in his cheating was Hillary Clinton, who was blaming a vast right-wing conspiracy and taking care of the bimbo eruptions, and putting down Gennifer Flowers, and in effect calling Monica Lewinsky a liar. It was only when the blue dress turned up that Hillary had to play the role of the "oh my God, he really cheated on me" wife -- which was an act. And I'm tired of that act. I'm sorry, Hillary; you're very capable in many respects, but I think this Spitzer situation is devastating to her candidacy.
CAPLIS: I disagree with the last point, but I agree with you on everything else. I think that's fair. She enabled Clinton's cheating in exchange for power. And I think that's one reason why she was a fatally flawed president from the beginning -- candidate for president -- and one reason why she's not going to win this nomination, you know; I agree with you on that. The last part is, I don't think the Spitzer thing's going to be devastating. In fact, I think she's done so much better in this campaign than I expected her to do. And I think she's really, in a sense, you know, made that part of her life and that pain and that difficulty something that makes her more real and more life-experienced. So I think she's done as well as she possibly could with it.

Let's not forget that sniffer fell all over himself praising vitter's wife's "courage" for accompanying her husband at his presser following the DC Madam story. With our sniffer, it's just all about smearing the other side. It's got nothing to do with right or wrong. Now, let's get to the meat of what's going on with the "coverage" of former Reverend Wright. Yeah, sniffer's a small fish. But there are around 400 conservative talk show yakkers throughout the system. Every body receives the same fax from the rnc. Some are willing to go so far to stretch this into "the Pastor said Goddamn America, so that means Obama hates America". While sniffer's a coward and won't actually say those exact words, he couches, alludes to, and hints just that with his "hand picked spiritual advisor" slogan that he repeats continually. Who are those "listeners" the reds are targeting? Listen to sniffer's 3-6 rnc advertisement. The callers are predominantly white middle aged conservatives, male or female, self-styled "values voters" that quite frankly grew up in a society that demanded that people with "darker skin" simply are not qualified for high public office UNLESS they pass the white, priveledged, conservative, extreme right wing judeo-christian smell test. In other words, to these folks, Obama has to turn away from his African American ethnicity and embrace what these conservative whites consider "acceptable policy" to be vetted by them. rove knows this. fox noise knows this. scammity, eddie munster, oxycontin, billo, rosey, sniffer, komerade herr streicher, goober, boortz, cunningham, slima, et al get the same orders. Make it about race. Why? It energizes an otherwise listless base into having a "cause". Along with the "personhood" and "right to work for less" ballot initiatives, local reds might have a villain to vote against. After all, most reds typically vote "against" something rather than "for" anything. Fly in the ointment.......The Democratic youth movement sweeping the nation. Could be tough to race bait with these 18-30's. Hopefully we've moved past the skin test with all that has happened to our nation these last 8 years. Obama is like the young ones that are looking at him. He's sharp, eloquent, capable, educated, well travelled, and tough. If he simply stays on point and STICKS UP FOR HIMSELF these 18-30's will stay with him. 400 sniffers can't change who Barack Obama is. Only he can. I don't think he'll fall into that trap. But we shall see. As far as Reverend Wright is concerned, Senator Obama hit it on the head friday on his interview with Keith. MUST VIEWING on Countdown. Google it. Paraphrasing the Senator (and adding my own opinion in), Reverend Wright came up in an era when Blacks were fire-hosed for having the temerity to want to go to school. Dogs sicked on them. Think ya might be a little hot if it happened to you? Meanwhile, sniffer went from the "neighborhood" to a golf scholarship. He didn't need US Army Airborne with bayonets drawn protecting him as he entered the school building. One other thing that's different about Reverend Wright and sniffer's youth.....Reverend Wright served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Nowhere are there any accounts of sniffer joining any branch of the US Armed forces. (Bein" a golf caddy on scholarship's hard sleddin'). Sniffer in all truth is a "stateside neocon commando" that advocates any war that he doesn't have to dip his own toes into. Point is, anybody who falls for the "racist pastor" scam wasn't going to vote for Senator Obama any way. That's not about Senator Obama. That's about them. One last thing, what if Senator Obama was in church for any of the Pastor's rants? SO WHAT?
As if that last blog wasn't long enough, saw "John Adams" parts 1 and 2 last nite. We can win this election. But the bad guys won't just lay down. Thanks to people 200 years ago we can change the direction of our great nation by virtue of our VOTES! They have hate on their side. We have hope and Democracy on ours.
"SO WHAT" is right LETKEMANN. The Reverend Wright is closer to truth than Archy Chaput and his homophobic ignorance and bigotry. Isn't Sliverman a total waste of time. "John Adams" was great. Looking forward to future episodes.
Concur, BOOF. Heard and saw the Senator's speech this AM. Came away with the undeniable conclusion that the 44th President of the United States handled that first "3AM phone call" of his Administration with the calm professional approach that Presidents used to before 43. Senator Obama was Presidential in the way he at once answered his critics WITHOUT BACKING DOWN and showed us the leadership we have been lacking for so long. Now, after all this, liars for hire like sniffer are really inconsequential. They will today say things like "this only provokes MORE questions" or "Obama has opened a racial divide" or "Obama has us stuck in the past" or "Obama really showed he hates America because he didn't distance himself from Pastor Wright". Typical repub distractions that the Senator mentioned in his speech. Don't give sniffer credit for any of these "talking points" any more than the patented "hand picked spiritual advisor" 4 word slogan that he's been using to rabble rouse for the last week. All this hate filled vitriol comes off faxes from frank luntz and rove, delivered en masse to the 400 plus righty yakkers. This arguement has shifted from the Obama campaign to the motives of the haters that make a living keeping the red machine in power. Senator Obama rendered dan caplis and his disgusting ilk totally irrelevant today, and he never even had to mention their names. Keep in mind, sniffer's audience for the most part would not vote for Senator Obama no matter what, so anything said on his 3-6pm rnc advertisement is simply a circular discussion among a very small demographic. Sycophants like sniffer are attempting to fool the rest of us into thinking that they're winning a battle that they know they're losing. The reality is that the storm is past and we can now get on to the business of electing a President all Americans will (or at least any rational Americans) be proud of.
Letkemann, wow, you pack a lot of political facts in a few words. As I’m someone who abuses CMM’s word count too often, you certainly don’t. Your comment, “Sycophants like sniffer are attempting to fool the rest of us into thinking that they're winning a battle that they know they're losing” was excellent, and true. Caplis often said ‘we won’, as a final comment to stop conversations and criticism after Bush’s last election. Funny, but he didn’t say “you won” or “we lost” after the last congressional elections, and he won’t say that in November. Obama has already won, in my opinion. Republicans have screwed up way too much of America. “It is the economy, stupid. It is the war, stupid” are the simple answers to Caplis. But ol Danny Boy is trying to spring board his way to the front of the senate seat pecking order, when he hasn’t even legislated a city ordinance, let alone deliberated laws at the highest levels of America. And in doing so, he regularly goes way over the top in his comments, just like Jeremiah Wright did. Caplis regularly dismisses comparisons he doesn’t like, but the funny thing is, Caplis regularly comments on the societal ills proving how damned Western Europe is and has relegated them to going to hell in a hand basket, per Caplis. Caplis also would gladly ponder in the past why African Americans could consider the OJ Simpson acquittal and its implications as a partial remedy on the social injustice they endure. But now, it is not even worth debating the facts surrounding a black minister venting those feelings, and why those views are felt or at least tolerated in predominantly African American church. But OJ was only about a double murder…this is about Dan’s politics, in Caplis’ mind.
Three areas, among many, of Caplis shady history of abusing the air-waves would be interesting. A major one is the talking points issue you bring up. Caplis has emphatically said that his ideas are his own, are original, and he doesn’t use talking points. If he is privy to any secure web site or fax list, he has been totally misleading, and his use of ‘handed pick spiritual advisor’ seems to be a sloppy example. The other areas that would be interesting are compete listings of the all the ‘name calling’ he has done to others. This after he says others lose arguments doing name calling, when he is the expert himself. Another would be all contradictory statements he’s made if you could match them up. The problem is that this yakked and whacked guy has been at it way too long to list them all, even with notes jotted down over time and audio recording that’s easily done in this technology age.
One last thing for the moment. I haven’t heard every moment of air time the last few days, but in all Dan’s harsh criticism of a blusterous minister, does anyone else notice how quiet Caplis gets when Silverman mentions J. Wright endangering his tax status when Wright treads dangerously into the political endorsement area? You can hear crickets chirping! Why is that? It wouldn’t have anything to do with Dan’s very close calls with crossing the line regarding how Christians and Catholics should vote, does it? Disclaimer: I love Catholics, and I’ve even had Catholic roommates…But now I’m just showing off. Just my opinion.handed pick=hand picked above. Or maybe I just wish Caplis would be handed a pick to dig his deep hole deeper. Anyway, that was my own sloppy example of proofreading, and my apologies. Best
Quick question Danny, between your self-aggrandizement sessions: If you were so sure in April 2003 that it would take a significant number of additional troops to secure Iraq at the time, and with so many lives at stake, why didn’t you state it loudly, proudly, and over and over for the last five years, instead of now just patting yourself on the back over and over for a five-year-old, apparently one-time prediction? Where was your leadership at the time and over time, or are self-congratulatory comments more important?
Another quick question: Has there been any loss of life, at all, in Iraq in an effort to 'save face' for the Bush administration? Are you sure? JMOThank you for you kind words NEWMAN. However, please do not sell yourself short. Nobody and I mean NOBODY describes the psyche, persona, "id", the seemingly endless need to impress with his knowledge of "right and wrong", ambition, and arrogance of dan caplis like you. Your research has documented a pattern of misinformation that is staggering. He is at once unmasked as a petty, insecure microphone bully and an arrogant know it all. I never knew about his rants about the very SUV's he now shills. Your exhaustive research on his witch hunt against Lisa Simpson is very much appreciated, and Here's hoping she knows about it too. He is a legend in his own mind and you've exposed him as exactly that by simply comparing what he says about one topic at one point in time against a contradictory belch that betrays his hypocrisy. For my part, for what ever reason, Senator Obama's speech on tuesday rendered sniffer irrelevant to me. While I was mobile yesterday and today, sniffer's opinions simply were not something I cared about these last two days, so I didn't get a chance to catch his shows. Your above post indicates that the red yakker whose only military combat experience reportedly came at a 1977 Boulder campus disturbance, where he has been accused of beating a pregnant female coed over the head with a flagpole, is now fancying himself a military planner extraordinaire. I do remember him whipping his audience into a frenzy during the initial 6 months but I don't remember him saying at any time that he thought feld marshall von rumsfeld was not using enough troops until it became fashionable for red yakkers to do so. I've known sooooo many former draft dodgers, military service avoiders and stateside commandos like sniffer. Video vulcans. tv tough guys. Radio raiders. candy pants brauchler's another one. We'll go over 4,000 Killed this week. But that number is a disconnect with sniffer. He could care less. Creatures like sniffer are so ready to "kill 'em all" now because they face no possibility of having to actually do it. Where were they when all that "testosterone" would have counted for something? Like I said before, the really big difference between Reverend Wright and dan caplis is that Reverend Wright loves his country enough to have served in the United States Marine Corps. dan caplis doesn't.
Thanks for the post Letkemann, and I appreciate CMM and regular posters like you and your patience when I bring a visceral and probably a more libertarian view to this forum, but I think we see some very fundamental issues similarly. And sorry I’m getting redundant, but the views of Caplis and similar theocrats are horribly bad for this nation and certainly Colorado, overall. One of Dan’s central themes--saying anyone imposing laws on others is imposing their moral values on others--is a fatally flawed argument, no matter how good it sounds on its face. Laws should not be passed that tell Caplis how to live his life, or how to indoctrinate his children into the mean spirited trophy life of self-absorbed narcissism that he wallows in. The fact is that he wants to dictate to others how to live there lives and how they teach their children. He is intent on contorting the Constitution and Bill of Rights to suit himself, and it is unacceptable. His ‘bad for communities’ argument is a complete dodge of the central tenants we were really founded on, and it is despicable that he does this. I may or may not like strip clubs, legalized marijuana use, gay marriage, or many other things, but I won’t tell Caplis he has to like or dislike them, or stop individual’s freedoms and rights. Caplis should answer a few questions: Are gay lifestyles bad for communities? Is gay marriage bad for communities? Is the ability to stop a fertilized egg from implanting in a womb bad for communities? Is preventing sperm meeting egg during or after intercourse bad for communities? Are strip clubs still bad for communities, in your opinion? Caplis would outlaw strip clubs if he could. Caplis is against gay marriage. You must ask yourself what else Caplis would like to outlaw if he fulfills his political ambitions. Caplis has also said regarding gay marriage and anti discriminatory gay legislation that we will ‘Take care of our gay friends as the need arises’. The need in Caplis mind? Is it Caplis who is judging the needs and pursuits of others? What arrogance and dismissive condescension! That Caplis can’t tell the difference or won’t acknowledge the difference that freedom affords us all in America, and the ultimate common good that gives us, tells volumes about Caplis. His right to evangelize and moralize ends exactly at the point my personal liberties begin, and that he can’t understand that shows the idiocy and self-righteousness that is Caplis. And never fear! Dan says he wants to protect Elliott Spitzer’s daughters….by eradicating prostitution and more criminalization of prostitution! What arrogance, again. Yeah, Caplis will help Spitzer’s daughters—by stigmatizing the matter more and criminalize their dad more. And prostitution will miraculously go away….and Dan says he lives in the real world. Just my opinion.
A few more comments, Letkemann (what else is new, huh?). I sincerely hope you are right and Caplis becomes completely irrelevant, but Clear Channel is allowing a daily stump speech by a most declared of undeclared candidates for political office, and Silverman is not his opponent, so it is not equality of time or a free speech issue. He said he would be in the senate race now of Schaffer hadn’t started his candidacy. Very little more proof is needed to understand his blind ambition. If Caplis is still focusing on the 2010 senate race as he’s said, he should reiterate that fact and then resign. If he is not and won’t run for political office, fine, he should say emphatically that he is not running, and keep on talking with better disclosures, disclaimers, and sponsorship rules. But I do hope people tell Clear Channel to stop the political posturing of Caplis for his own personal and political gains and stop the admitted, unethical, and likely illegal plugola. I hope people tell Clear Channel that one of their hosts labeled a CU coed a whore (not Lisa Simpson), while also saying that such an action should never, ever be done, and anyone doing so has abused their use of public airwaves. Tell Clear Channel that if Caplis wants to be a spokesperson for the Catholic Church and minimize priest sex abuse on-air, they should all meet minimum sponsorship rules. Tell Clear Channel their host has said he is doing everything he can for the right to life movement and George Bush, ergo the Republican Party, and they should adhere to sponsorship and disclaimer rules at the very least. Tell Chevy their spokesperson for SUV’s has called driving SUV’s ‘immoral’ and ‘irresponsible’. Tell the FCC that a radio show has a host that engages in gives constant political and admitted commercial plugola. This isn’t left and right, it is right and wrong. Just my opinion.
Wow, that was great. NEWMAN, your outstanding post now puts a new word into the sniffer dialogue.......hubris. This lad's got it, a lot of it.
Oh, almost forgot. the sniff's got a new one for his 3-6 rnc advertisement. "Typical white person" is makin' it's way all over the red airwaves. Funny thing, we all know that what he alluded to was and is to a certain extent still true, the sniffmeister will preach to the choir today about Senator Obama referencing his gramma as a "typical white person who got scared when blacks approached". (Not what the Senator said but our favorite proboscis will frame it exactly that way). But whites who get scared when a black man approaches sure as hell don't like to be called whites who get scared when a black person approaches. Imagine the scandal! The outrage! Here is this African American being so "uppity" that he's not bowing to the white voters that ain't gonna vote for him any way, not asking for forgiveness for being black and not asking their permission to run for the nation's highest office. Here he is, sticking to what's wrong and how to fix it, assuming that it doesn't matter what color you are if you're qualified. What nerve! SNIFFER! DO SOMETHING. QUICK. Wait, maybe they can read the kids a chapter of "culture warrior" before bed tonight. Maybe billo has something in his book that mixes up Halloween and Passover. Oh wait, that was the 72 year old white delusional but none the less uberqualified candidate that screwed that up. Right after the "Iran's trainin' al qaeda" gaffe....he did that 2 days in a row! Right after the "I don't know much about the economy" slip. Think sniffer's boy craig will bring it up? NAAAAAW. His job's changin' the schnoz's diapers. Think sniffer will save the "all three had their passports compromised, so Obama, quit complainin'" scam for the "5"? wish I could hear it, but got work to do.
Holy diamonds! Did anybody catch the "you can't pick your family, but you can pick your pastor" phrase that hillary used yesterday? Question is, did she pick it up off a secure fax from the rnc like team sniffer did OR did wolfson hear it on his own and give it to her?
