Saying Clinton "bawl[ed] her eyes out" on the campaign trail, KOA's Rima asked, "Isn't that just like a chick with a capital C?"
As guest host on the February 4 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Jon Caldara Show, Sean Rima attacked Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (NY) for "bawl[ing] her eyes out" while campaigning earlier that day and asked, "Isn't that just like a woman? Isn't that just like a chick with a capital C?" He later added, "Isn't that kinda like a chick? Let the tears flow when things get tough, so guys'll feel sorry for you, and women will think that you're all sensitive and stuff," before saying, "It worked for her in New Hampshire, but can it work on Super Tuesday?"
Rima later agreed with a caller's assertion that Clinton's tearing up was due to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), adding that "pretty much every day is that time of the month for Hillary." Rima also claimed that "the crying thing is completely contrived," echoing a baseless claim made by some media figures, and agreed with the caller's assertion that female voters did not believe the emotion was genuine, stating: "Even white chicks are gonna vote for [Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack] Obama."
According to a February 4 Associated Press article, Clinton "had an emotional reunion Monday with a colleague from the early days of her legal career as a child advocate." The article continued:
The moment came as she revisited her law school days while hosting a campaign event at the Yale Child Study Center where she first pursued her interest in child advocacy.
Penn Rhodeen, a New Haven public interest lawyer who worked with Clinton as a student, recalled her showing up on his doorstep wearing purple bellbottoms.
"It was so 1972," he recalled, praising Clinton for her longtime interest in helping children.
"Here is the abiding truth we know -- you have always been a champion for children. Welcome home, dear friend. We are so proud of you," he said.
Clinton responded emotionally to Rhodeen's praise, at one point wiping her eyes with her hand. But unlike her teary-eyed moment in Portsmouth, N.H., her voice never broke and she tried make light of her emotion.
"I said I would not tear up. Already we're not on that path," Clinton replied to laughs. [emphasis added]
As Colorado Media Matters noted, as guest host on the October 9, 2007, broadcast of Caldara's show, Rima called Clinton "the anti-Christ."
From the February 4 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Jon Caldara Show, with guest host Sean Rima:
RIMA: Isn't it fascinating, though, how Hillary Clinton chooses to, like, bawl her eyes out the day before some major contest? Have you known that? But it's not about gender. It's not about gender. It's not about her bein' a chick. But I have noticed a trend. I have noticed that Hillary tends to, like, she's gotta bawl her eyes out somewhere along the campaign trail the day before a major contest. The last time was in New Hampshire, and she won New Hampshire. She's gotta start crying. What the hell's she cryin' about today?
Isn't that just like a woman? Isn't that just like a chick with a capital C? Isn't that just like a chick? Do we have any chicks listening? Are you offended by what I'm saying? Isn't that kinda like a chick? Let the tears flow when things get tough, so guys'll feel sorry for you, and women will think that you're all sensitive and stuff. It worked for her in New Hampshire, but can it work on Super Tuesday?

RIMA: [Caller] in Lakewood. [Caller], you're on Newsradio 850 KOA. What's on your brain?
MALE CALLER: Hey, I just wanted to ask you to do the math, count the weeks, about the crying.
RIMA: [Laughs] Count the weeks. I know where you're going with this.
CALLER: It's definitely her PMS. She has no control over it.
RIMA: It's that time of the month.
CALLER: Don't be concerned about it. She has no control over it.
RIMA: I think pretty much every day is that time of the month for Hillary.
CALLER: She has shown her wickedness, hasn't she? As far as --
RIMA: How could you tell when it's that time of the month for Hillary? She's like that all the time.
CALLER: Well, you know, like I tell you --
RIMA: No, I think it's a, I think the crying -- dude, I think the crying thing is completely contrived.
CALLER: Yeah, I do too. I do too. And I'm not buyin' it.
RIMA: No.
CALLER: So, and I don't think most women are buyin' it, either.
RIMA: No, apparently even white chicks are gonna vote for Obama. [Laughs]
