CIO panelist Newsum named KNUS' Andrews "Disgrace of the Week" after Colorado Media Matters item
Following an October 10 Colorado Media Matters item about KNUS 710 AM Backbone Radio host John Andrews' remark that Christopher Columbus' discovery of the New World "was good ... for the people from Africa who were brought here against their will," Colorado Inside Out panelist Dani Newsum on the October 11 broadcast named Andrews her choice as the "Disgrace of the Week." During the KBDI Channel 12 program, Newsum chastised Andrews for having the "temerity ... to tell African-Americans that they are better off for having been kidnapped and enslaved in America, justifying Columbus' discovery of America."
As Colorado Media Matters noted, on his October 7 broadcast, Andrews asserted that Columbus' discovery "was good for the inhabitants of the New World. It was good for the inhabitants of the whole world." While acknowledging later in the program that "bloodshed" and "atrocities" were committed during the ensuing conquests, Andrews also claimed that the discovery "was good too for the people from Africa who were brought here against their will." He further asserted that "people of African ancestry" had claimed to have "ended up benefiting immensely as a result" of their ancestors' slavery, concluding, "There is no one that didn't benefit" from the discovery of the New World.
From the October 11 broadcast of KBDI Channel 12's Colorado Inside Out:
RAJ CHOHAN (host): Let's rocket through "Disgrace of the Week" -- we've got about a minute and a half left. Go ahead.
[...]
NEWSUM: John Andrews, for having the temerity -- Republicans, this is why you're in the minority -- to tell African-Americans that they are better off for having been kidnapped and enslaved in America, justifying Columbus' discovery of America.

thank you, Dani. I am a white male that was deeply offended by this senile old man's idiotic statement. Disgrace Of The Week he is. but he is not alone. rosen, caldera, newman, jones, james, those 2 dinosaurs on kcol's am sham, rima, corry, (actually all the II frauds), and too many more to name are now routinely race baiting. and when someone calls them out, they accuse that person of smearing them. of being "overly sensitive". these people have no shame. they see decent people's indignation as ratings. i'm sure there are some that don't see andrews' statement as racist. they are the same people that would defend coulter, o'reilly, hannity, boortz, or savage, no matter what crap they emit. it's ideology driven. the republican party is basicly down to 2 demographics.......the very, very wealthy, and those rubes dumb enough to vote and root against their own childrens' best interests. the "dueling banjoes" voting block. these liars for hire are basicly pandering to the worst instincts of the latter group.
oops, left out that key repub demographic......everybody knows one......the young college repubs. love the war, support the war, talk the war, pimp the war......as long as they don't have to participate in the war. for reference, please google operation yellow elephant. it's a little over the top at times, but it gets to the point.
Every time I think Andrews has sunk as low as he can go, he spews still another vicious, racist distortion of our history. I notice he doesn't mention the Indian people in his rant. How, exactly, did they benefit from the disease, poverty, and outright murder committed against them by their conquerors, for that is what we were.
Dani is right on. LETKEMANN touched all the right bases save one, Tommy Tanclueless the mentally unfit for military service Repub clown parading for president. He's part and parcel to this racist Repub club. Tommy and Johnny go way back to the days when they signed on to some moronic petition to ban the Department of Education. Johnny goes for the T's witless idea to bomb Mecca and Medina. Tommy appears with the League of the South racists and whistles Dixie in front of a Confederate flag. Senile racist old men is right. Go Dani.
