Noting Corry's leadership of anti-affirmative action campaign, KNUS' Andrews omitted that she is an Independence Institute staffer
Summary: On Backbone Radio, John Andrews and his guest, Ward Connerly of The American Civil Rights Institute, praised Jessica Peck Corry and her leadership of the campaign for Amendment 46 on Colorado's November ballot, an anti-affirmative action measure. But neither disclosed that she is a policy analyst and political strategist with the Independence Institute.
Discussing the anti-affirmative action ballot measure Amendment 46 on the May 11 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's Backbone Radio, host John Andrews and guest Ward Connerly extolled Jessica Peck Corry as the leader of the campaign for the measure -- known as the Colorado Civil Rights Initiative -- without identifying her as a policy analyst and political strategist with the "free-market" Independence Institute. Corry also serves as director of the think tank's Campus Accountability Project.
Connerly, who is founder and chairman of the American Civil Rights Institute, described Corry as "well-informed about the issue" of affirmative action, while Andrews called her "a good friend of this radio program." But both failed to mention that Corry supported a controversial anti-affirmative action bake sale held by College Republicans in 2004 at the University of Colorado in Boulder that charged different prices for baked goods depending on the customer's skin color, as Colorado Media Matters has noted.
From the May 11 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's Backbone Radio:
ANDREWS: Here in Colorado, I wouldn't be surprised if you have essentially a lonely battle as far as elites not rallying to your flag either, but if the people are just given a chance to vote on this, if judges will step back as the other side sometimes wants to de-legitimize you with litigation -- I'm confident we can get a result as we did in Michigan.
CONNERLY: I think we will. And we're very, very tickled to have leading the effort now Jessica Corry, who is very bright, well-informed about the issue, as was Valery Pech Orr [Colorado Civil Rights Initiative executive director]. Jessica is going to carry this ball across the goal line.
ANDREWS: Well, she's a good friend of this radio program. She wrote a terrific piece; I just looked it up in the Rocky, and we'll make sure it's linked on BackboneAmerica.net, telling the goals of the initiative and some of the lies and dirty tricks put up by the other side. But Jessica's a fighter; she has in you the example of a very well-seasoned fighter, a general for the whole national effort, Ward Connerly. And we're with you all the way. We'll check in with you again in a month and continue to advocate for it in the meantime.

Jessica is "very bright" and "well informed"? Since when? The only "balls" this bimbo is going to carry across the goal line will be those of Andrews and Connerly. Well informed my ass. This is racist trash from beginning to end.
Hi Big Boof,
I'm confused, what is racist about opposing group preferences and set asides that are based on skin color or gender?
“But neither disclosed that she is a policy analyst and political strategist with the Independence Institute.”
The only people whose opinion might be changed by her II affiliation are already well aware of who she is. To everybody else it’s a worthless detail. They stated her position on the issue and her role with the campaign clearly enough.
It would be like an anti-abortionist complaining that Air America mentioned an abortion rights advocate, praised her position, but neglected to mention she belonged to NOW. So what.
Is it possible that the real “issue” is simply that these talking heads have an opinion of affirmative action that is different from CMM’s? That’s hardly underhanded.
Tell me when they lie. I couldn’t care less what their opinions are.
MFIETO. If you're confused so be it. I could care less. Corry in her "very bright and well informed" haze labels affirmative action "true atrocities". The "Republican bake sale" she and "Pantload" Brad Jones held at CU outlined by CMM is about as "RACIST" as it gets. Mr. Connerly the inimitable chairman of the so called American Civil Rights Institute, an extremist right wing nut house in my opinion, is equally culpable of "lies and dirty tricks" Jawbone Andrews whined about. The ACRI says they want change by challenging the "race matters mentality of todays so called civil rights leaders". Just what the hell does this bunch racist blather mean. Still confused MFIETO?
For those of you who think Mr. Andrews, Jessica, or Connerly are legit consider this. Ward Connerly is aligned with the Council of Conservative Citizens descended from the white segregationist group White Citizens Councils. Connerly joined Rev. John Raternick head of the CCC to back a state referendum in Michigan to ban affirmative action. Connerly personally rejected calls to denounce the CCC which has referred to blacks as "a retrograde species of humanity". Jawbone, Jessica, Connerly, and their various phony "Institutes" posing as saviors of humanity are nothing more than frauds and racists.
Big Boof
So determining the price of cupcakes based on race is "as racist as it gets" but hiring and admissions based on race is not? Lets be consistent, if the students selling the cupcakes are racists, the social engineers who push affirmative action are as well.
Right FIEDO. "Social engineers" and "cupcakes". You got it. I've been trying to tell you all along. Affirmative action is about "cupcakes". Glad you finally figured it out.
BIG B,
You are aware that Ward Connerly is black are you not? Throwing the word 'RACIST' around so liberally completely dillutes it's meaning. Once upon a time the definition of racist was one who believed his or her race to be biologically superior to that of another given race. Now it is used by 'progressives' who see racism behind every rock to show how morally superior they are. Everywhere affirmative action is put to a vote by the general populace instead on being forced upon it by politicians it loses. The majority of people know what a load of crap it is.
FIEDO. You don't say. Well I'll be. Connerly is black just like Alan Keyes, Armstrong Williams, and Clarence Tom. No wonder this clown goes along with a statement that says blacks are a "retrograde species of humanity". Connerly's in good company with a "morally superior load of crap" like Keyes. You too FIEDO. I'm well aware Mr. Connerly is black. I'm surprised you stoop to labeling affirmative action a "load of crap". Do you feel victimized perhaps "Cupcake".
BIG,
When you attempt to denigrate me by calling me names "Cupcake" and FIEDO (implying that I am a dog) you seem to be oblivious to the idea that I capable of the same (BIG BOOB comes to mind).
I figured you did know that Connerly was black, I was amused by the irony that by not mentioning it, you fell into the Media Matters trap of omitting information HEADLINE "BIGBOOF1005875 misleads on Ward Connerly". And no, "Cupcake" does not feel victimized; playing the victim card is a ploy used universally by people on the left. Whatever Connerly's association with the CCC is, it does not have anything to do with the merits of Affirmative Action. Yes, the retrograde species comment is beyond dispicable, (althought I am dubious about how accurate it is since the only source I could find as to where it originated from is from the Southern Poverty Law Center, not exactly a beacon of objectivity). In addition to what I stated before, AA is not only bad news because it divides people by race and gender, it lowers the bar on achievement. I'ts a slap in the face of those it attempts to help because it essentialy says "You're to stupid to get in any other way"
Calm down FIEDO. Your thin skin is showing. BIG BOOB. I like it. I'm not at all "denigrated" by the label. BOOF was the name of my late great Newfoundland. I feel in lucid company with my dogs compared to Connerly and his "activist whining". Ditto for you Fido. Nothing seems to be a "beacon of objectivity" to your ilk unless it comes from the mouth of Limbaugh, Fox News, or the odious Dependent Institution crowd. Regarding your "most people know what a load of crap" AA is. Connerly has been sent packing with his odious right wing agenda against AA in Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Arizona. The Nebraska state legislatures voted against Connerly and his repeat, odious right wing extremist agenda in their states. Oklahoma found evidence of voter fraud by the fraud Connerly in collecting signatures for his "RACIST" anti affirmative action inititative. How's that for lowering the bar of achievement FIEDO. Amusing isn't it.
I'm nothing but calm, Big. I guess Affirmative Action can come in many forms. If it is about guaranteeing equality for everyone then I am for it. What I don't like is preferences and set asides based on race and gender instead of who is most qualified. A government agency I once worked at would only consider individuals who met their flavor of the month on jobs. These jobs might remain open for months until they found a person who met their race/gender wish list while they ignored plenty of qualified persons right under there nose who could have started immediately. Maybe this was an abuse of their power - I don't know, but it gave me a sour taste for AA.
Anyway, I just wanted to put in my two cents that I do not think it is racist to be against something like this. Quite the contrary, the people who were running the show in my particular experience were the racists.
Just want to say I am fond of Newfoundlands too. Good debating you Big Boof. If we find ourselves again on the opposite side of an issue here I just want you to know there is nothing personal, just a way to blow off some steam now that I'm getting tool old to play recreational softball and football.
Take care!
We do agree on Newfy's. Great friends and dedicated. It was spirited debate to say the least. I appreciate your honesty and agree with you. I too find this a way to blow off steam and apologize for the FIEDO business. Thanks and take care my friend.
