Interns

Colorado Media Matters is a state-based project of Media Matters for America, a Web-based progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media. Colorado Media Matters is managed and staffed by Coloradans trained in the rigorous editorial policies and research methods developed by Media Matters for America. We are looking for interns to work during summer 2008 in our Denver office who believe in progressive causes and can assist in the following departments:
Responsibilities:
Providing support
to Colorado Media Matters' research and writing staff
with transcribing radio and television programs and monitoring television,
print, Internet, and radio outlets. Opportunity
to write bylined items depending on experience. Applicants should familiarize
themselves with the website and might be asked to research and write an item for
further consideration of their candidacy.
Interns will receive hands-on training while working directly with staff. All interns must have an interest in current political issues as well as media criticism. Strong writing and communication skills a must.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be hard-working,
enthusiastic, resourceful, and detail-oriented. They also must demonstrate an
ability to work on deadline and thrive under pressure, exhibit excellent
written/oral communications, and have the ability to work independently as well
as with a team.
Applicants must have completed at least their freshman year of college. Strong writing skills are mandatory, as is proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Prior experience in communications and Internet-based research is a big plus.

(2) On a separate page, please list the total number of hours per week that you are available. The position would be part time for 15-20 hours a week, and could be fulfilled in three full days every week or in five half-days (morning or afternoon shifts).
